Bloom

Bloom is best understood as a game developed in a self-imposed Game Jam. I challenged myself to come up with an idea and create it in a 48 hour period. What I came up with was a small game about balancing the needs of a flower. Players can draw clouds to shield the flower from too much sunlight that'll dry out the flower, or they can erase clouds for flowers that need more sunlight. The player can even draw rain-clouds, and when there are enough in an area they will start to rain to help nourish the flower, of course the player can erase these rain clouds to prevent the flower from wilting from over watering.

This is a rare case that I had to add more to my concept rather than scale down. I ended up adding a variety of flowers each with a different set of needs. Some flowers need more rain than some and others are vice-versa. I also realized that even for an idle game that the pace can be very slow and lack of player interaction can get boring, so I added in insects the player can click for bonuses. Bees can be clicked to make sunlight more effective, dragonflies can be clicked to increase the nourishment of rain, and at night fire-flies can be clicked to add to the overall flower's health.

There are some additional systems such as randomly spawning clouds & rain-clouds. There's also a wind system that is telegraphed by the surrounding grass which will push clouds when active.

The game was completed in my self-imposed 48 hour period with only audio missing.
