Cosmic Gravity Game

Cosmic Gravity is a game I designed and developed in my personal time. The original design comes from a few disparate ideas I’ve had over the years, the current iteration being first drafted early 2017. Based on some of the original gameplay ideas and gameplay loops I decided to make some tweaks and turn the project into a mobile game. The game released late July 2018.

 

The game uses simple tap functions so the player can make use of the Grav-Canon or the Vacuum-Canon. The Grav-Canon creates a circular area that pulls things towards the center, this is used to navigate the ship or move the dangerous asteroids. The Vacuum-Canon is used to absorb energy particles. The longer the player survives the higher their score.

 

The game increases in difficulty by first increasing the frequency and number of asteroids. Later the game is complicated by tentacles that default to coiled near the asteroid they're attached to and occasionally lash out. The tentacles complicate the gameplay, players no longer just have to make sure asteroids aren’t on a collision course for their spaceship but they have to make sure the tentacles aren’t pointed out toward the ship where they could reach out and strike at any moment. The player also has to take care when changing an asteroid’s or their ship's direction that they may not steer directly into a tentacle.
